Effective methods for guidance
At Praktijk HOP, we use various methods to provide effective and enjoyable support. Below, you'll find a brief explanation of two frequently used methods: ACT4LIFE and solution-focused working .

"My owl flaps around a lot when it's my turn in class, but now my elephant blows it away!"
M. 10 years old
From my tree, I don't actually see them bullying me at all. I just see them looking at me. My owl then tells me they're bullying me, but I'm not actually sure about that.

ACT4LIFE
What?
The ACT4LIFE model (formerly ACT4KIDS) is designed to gain insight into:
why you do what you do and keep doing it
or whether this helps you in the direction of what is important to you
what could work to break behavioral patterns
the progress of your change.
It is based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which aims to increase psychological flexibility, so that you can lead a life that is (again) valuable despite hassles and obstacles.
How?
ACT4LIFE helps children, young people and adults, using symbolic figures in an understandable, playful and accessible way to:
To accept their feelings and thoughts without fighting them or pushing them away.
To deal with unpleasant emotions, such as fear or anger, so that they have less influence on their behaviour.
To be consciously present in the here and now, which allows them to concentrate better and be less likely to be distracted by worries or brooding.
Discovering their own values: what they really find important, such as friendship or honesty, and how they can adapt their behaviour accordingly.
Taking action that fits who they want to be, even if it is sometimes exciting or difficult.
For whom?
For everyone! It's used for children experiencing anxiety, depression, anger, or difficulty regulating their emotions. It's also suitable for children who need some extra support to gain more self-confidence and feel better about themselves.

SOLUTION-ORIENTED WORKING
What?
Solution-focused work is a positive and practical approach that focuses on finding solutions rather than analyzing problems. It helps children and young people discover and utilize their strengths and potential. Instead of dwelling on the difficulties, we explore together what's going well and what you want to achieve.
How?
By asking questions and focusing on successes, we ensure that the child or young person is in control.
For whom?
For everyone! Solution-focused work is particularly effective for children, young people, and families. It complements positive guidance and support. Every child has unique strengths. Together, we work to develop these strengths so children and young people can confidently achieve their goals.
